A bit late and a wee preview

First and foremost let me wish everyone a happy New Year - I hope that 2009 is a good year for all of us, with plenty of time drinking good beer with good mates in good pubs (a theme I am sure I will be coming back to repeatedly in the near future, the pubs that is).

I arrived back from my Christmas and New Year sojourn to France and the UK last night - landing in a snow flurry - winter seems to have arrived at last in Prague, and with temperatures due to hit -15º Celsius this week I am very glad for my lambs wool sweaters.

Over the past two weeks I have drunk beers from the UK, France, Belgium and Canada (that was something of a surprise) - many of them completely new to me, quite of few of them were very nice, and a number of them were downright rank.

Although most of my drinking over the last couple of weeks has been done in the delightfully domestic setting of a living room whilst watching the football scores on teletext, I have been to a couple of pubs, and will be giving comments in due course.

So hopefully normal service will be resumed in the coming weeks.

  3. I am planning my first homebrew experiment in the coming weeks - tentatively a smoked mild. It will be a somewhat rough and ready approach to brewing but I am looking forward to getting underway.

  5. Happy new year. I'm on the wagon for january, so any visitors to my blog will be saved my half-arsed opinions about beer.

  8. Hey Beer Sagas,

Glad you are enjoying the blog!

Great picture at the top of yours, makes me feel like a Czech-based Homer Simpson - "mmmmm, Kout".

  9. Kout is a great memory. I met Pivni Filosof in Prague in December, and I was treated to the offers of U Slovanské Lipy. The hospoda was OK, but the beers served there were fantastic. I am really looking forward to tasting them again.

I envy you living in the Czech Republic. Kout is really an excellent brewer.

Homebrew - Cheaper than the Pub?

The price of beer has been on my mind a fair bit lately. At the weekend I kicked my first keg of homebrew for the 2024, a 5.1% amber kellerb...
